Welcome back for another episode of TV20’s Community Spotlight!

In this episode: Leah Longbrake sat down with Robert Davis, Director of Public Utilities for the City of Cleveland, and Ivan Henderson, Commissioner for Cleveland Public Power to discuss the cities latest initiative to transition to LED street lights.

Starting back in July, the City of Cleveland began the daunting task of replacing more than 61 thousand street lamps with LED bulbs. However this is much more than replacing a light bulb, as the project aims to bring 21st century connectivity and infrastructure to Cleveland.

Touting “smart tech”, the upgrades will not only provide brighter and more energy efficient lights, but also bring features such as real time outage management, dimmability, and increased security.

Soon will the days of calling in to report an outage be gone, as CPP will be able to monitor street light power remotely. In addition, the new lights are dimmable, meaning even the most inconvenient of lights can be adjusted to suit a neighborhood’s needs.

With the installation of the lights will also come an additional 1000+ cameras that will be monitor by the Cleveland Division of Police, bringing an extra layer of safety on top of the brighter streets.
